Senior Software Engineer, Smart Home, Google Nest [China]


 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience in programming languages (e.g., C or C++).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with smart home standards and protocols such as Matter, HomeKit.
  • Experience with internet protocols and standards such as IPv6, TCP/UDP, CoAP, Protocol Buffers.
  • Experience with application protocols especially for consumer products that interact with cloud-based services and mobile apps.
  • Experience with Android or iOS software development.
  • Experience with software development on highly resource and power constrained micro-controller environments, with knowledge of embedded RTOS and Linux environments.
  • Ability to speak and write in Chinese and English fluently.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the Thread development and integration into multiple Google Products and high-quality Google Matter-over-Thread User Experience.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software, and services for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Google Nest team develops, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Thread Group on Thread standards evolvement.
  • Design and develop Thread features and integrate Thread into smart home devices across various Operating Systems (e.g., Linux, Android, or Fuchsia) to make the Thread networking technology being a great benefit to both Google Nest and third-party.
  • Drive stability, performance, and robustness across a diverse set of network environments and topologies.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug, track, or resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, service operations, or user experience.
